The Belgian Malinois (often mistaken for a German Shepherd) remains a popular breed for police and military work due to its trainability and grand appearance. Light build and boned these dogs were bred in the city of Malines, Belgian as a sheep herding dog. Average height is 22 to 26. Their coats are short with straight, hard hairs. Their coloring is shaded from light brown to mahogany brown with black overlay, and with black on ears, tail and muzzle. The Belgian Malinois is a confident, friendly, hard working, energetic dog breed. Average lifespan is only 10 to 12 years, falling ill to a number of health problems.
