The Bernese Mountain Dog (AKA Berner Sennenhund) came from the Alpine herders in Switzerland. These large breed dogs were used as in general farm work. The color on their coats are very distinctive, made up of most black with a white chest and strip up muzzle, white tipped paws and brown markings on face, and paws. Ears fall into a v-shape. Weight is often between 65 to 120 pounds; height is about 23-27 inches. Temperament is good natured, and often shy and docile of strangers. Failing ill to cancer more than most dogs, then often have a short life span, only living to be generally 8 years old.
