Calling ALL Green Paw Doggy's

Okay we have a question for any of you Doggy's that may have a green paw here.

Mommy bought a Christmas Cactus 3 years ago.  The little booger came with flowers and since then has never had flowers again.  Our mommy does not have a green tumb nor do we have a green paw and we just can not figure out why this Christmas Cactus will not show us any beautiful litttle flowers.

If any of you can tell us what we need to do or what the heck is wrong with this little guy.  Is he sick are we not feeding him enough or are we feeding him to much.......We want this little cactus guy to be happy by having some beautiful flowers on him.

Hope someone can help him

Patience is the key. Mine seem to thrive on "benign neglect" so they don't get overwatered. They are cacti! Good luck!

Kolchak and Felix gave you pawsome advice!!!! Mom's blooms every Thanksgiving and Easter, she basically ignores them and they are usually very dry...do not overwater! In the summer she puts them outside in the shade under the maple tree and brings them back into the house late sept...the longer nights is what causes it to bloom...my Nanny had 2 that were cute, and then they didn't bloom fur 2 or 3 year after...she was gonna throw them away, Mom said be patient...well, they bloomed this past fall, and were covered with flowers....!!! Don't give up!!!!

I wish I could help Min pins. But Mom killed an ALOE VERA last year. Geez, she isn't green fingered either. Now she has another Aloe. I hope she lets it be.

We have a ginormous Christmas cactus that has been in our family since the 1920s and it can be tough to get them to rebloom. But here is what Mom does, they like humidity, so mom has the pot in a humidity tray. Right now is growing season, so give it lots of water. The best way Mom finds is to water it thoroughly, then let the top inch of soil dry out, then water thoroughly again. Repeat as necessary. The IMPORTANT thing to do is in Sept to Nov - make sure the plant is in indirect light during the day and if at all possible COMPLETE DARKNESS at night - these plants need LOTS of dark to drigger blooming - like 10 - 13 hours a day. It does not respond well to artificial light (even regular room lighting) so keep that to a minimum if possible. It is best to move it into a little used room during the fall so that you can keep the light conditions perfect. It is also important during the fall to drastically reduce the amount of water it gets to similuate a drought, which forces the plant to bloom. After it blooms, don't do anything to it (like pruning, repotting) for at least a month. Any repotting, resoiling etc should be done in the spring. Make sure your plant has LOTS of pot space to grow! BOL! GEEZE, now that we think about it, our cactus is ALOT of work!!

My sister and her sister-in-law can get those plants to flower, not my mom. Good luck

We'd be more than happy to help, but Mommy is so bad with plants, she can kill silk flowers!

Our "Christmas Cactus" that Mommy has had about 15 years now blooms in February and March. A friend of hers blooms in November... So maybe your's just isn't ready to bloom yet. And they do like to be cool and don't require too much water.

Well he is away from the heat, no heat vents around him. He sets in a south window above the kitchen sink, but their are blinds on the window and mommy only lets a little sun in there. He is around other cacti's and they are all doing well. He looks healthy but no little flowers.....

They like to be cool! If they are near a heating vent it's not the place for them! Do you have a north window that doesn't get too much warm sun and is away from the heat register? Other than that, just water once a week and feed according to the directions and it should produce pretty flowers for you!
