Allegations:
1. This shelter performs "heartstick" euthanasia without sedation and the
workers actually enjoy inflicting pain on the animals and relish in
heartsticking them without sedation which from what I understand the
noises alone from the animal would make you and I sick.
2. He is intentionally not checking messages and working with rescues and
instead he is actively blocking rescue work by maliciously euthanizing
animals that rescuers are trying to save.
3. He and the other workers poured bleach on a litter of puppies and watched and laughed as
the momma dog tried desperately to help her babies.
4. A direct witness saw a dog dead in its food bowl (there is a picture) when she went down to rescue some dogs and no one even bothered removing the dog and just left it there dead.
5. They do not monitor the dogs conditions well and often puppies die unnecessarily and they do not care.
From a rescuer: Six weeks ago I was involved with a pull from there. An
emaciated terrier mix had had 8 pups. The shelter worker could not be
bothered after 2 days to tell us how many pups were still alive. 3 died
in the shelter. 1 on the way to the vet and one more the first evening
at their foster. The 3 remaining pups had severe crusting and burns on
their paws from the bleach used. When they were at the "shelter" they
were on a wooden pallet with no bedding, not even a cardboard box or
newspaper to keep the pups warm, Today the babies are thriving in
foster, but Mom will need long term care. This place is a disgrace.

Tiny newborn babies and their moms lying on the cold cement floor. On several occasions beds have been donated to the shelter and
the staff refuses to put the beds in with the moms and babies because
"it is too much trouble." ALSO JEFF BASS THE SHELTER MANGER STATED THEY
ARE JUST DOGS AND DO NOT NEED BEDS!!!!
Withholding medical care from animals when they are visibly sick or injured is against NC
law and the stated policies of the local animal control. According to
this shelter's policy, the shelter can release dogs to foster care if
they feel the medical needs warrant such action. The staff, however,
has yet to agree to this despite multiple plea's from rescues and the
general public.
Sometimes they do sedate them but they do it with food, not a shot. They wait until the dog can't fight back and
then heartstick, while the dogs are still alert. I doubt they sedate at
all if dogs are friendly and don't put up a fight.
Hopefully, the writer of this email as well as the rescuers mentioned will contact ABC who needs information in order to do an
expose of this "shelter"!
As a side note: a veterinarian in Onslow Country contacted me and put our website up on their site as the
"shelters" in their area (and apparently in all of North Carolina) -
are hell holes.

WE WILL BE PRAYING HERE AT RAINBOW BRIDGE THAT THE REMAINING PUPS AND THE MOM MAKE A QUICK RECOVERY. SHAME ON THAT SHELTER. GOD DOES NOT LIKE HIS LITTLE ONES TREATED THAT WAY. MANY PRAYERS FROM ANGELS, FURKIDS, FURBABIES AND BRIDGE KIDS THAT THIS MAN GETS WHAT HE DESERVES AND THE SHELTER IS SHUT DOWN.

Does anyone have updates on this? We are in NC and want to do all we can to see that this shelter (if it can be called that) is CLOSED.

pretty much all the shelters/pounds in the south are hell holes to one degree or another. we work with caswell county which is an exception, though the do euthanize it is done with a needle like at the vet. all dogs who come in receive basic medical care, shots and worming and hw check. the pound manager sue spender kills herself to make sure the place is sparkling clean and the dogs cool in summer and warm in winter. the rest of the places just suck. no adoption hours, filthy conditions, no place you would want to vist i assure you. Gaston and Robeson are by far the worse. I tried to rescue 20 beagles there a year ago. spent hours on line to every beagle rescue in usa and arranged homes. call the pound and spoke to man in charge who could barely put a sentence together. he said now there was one dog less since the pack killed him and ate him. charming. i made arrangements to drive down the next moring and pick them all up. left in the early am and drove 4 hours and got there at 8;30 no body there. waited till 10 30 when guy finally showed up. he said he euthanized them all the night before. i wanted to euthanize him. when different beagle rescues called there he said he never spoke to me...didnt know what they were talking about. made me look like a jerk. of course the cat is out of the bag now. he has gotten a rep now and the media is after them. It is all over facebook and there is a man michael c who is emailing people and telling them not to protest, not to contact the tv because they are turning over a new leaf and really trying. If you believe that, can i interest you in pruchasing a nice bridge in brooklyn ny? brandon

I have been posting a copy of this on CL in different areas in NC today. Hopefully, some people will call the station. I wish we were able to help more than we can, but I think the key is to send it out to EVERYONE everybody knows in NC and in rescue groups in neighboring states. There is strength in numbers and if people see others coming forward, they will be more likely to do the same.

OMD...this sickens me...in my own state even. I am forwarding this on to Miss Paula as she has pulled dogs from the Carolinas for some time and I just ride shotgun or drive a few times. Thanks for cross posting this.

This is absolutely disgusting!! How can anyone be so inhumane!! I hope this place gets shut down and the guy should get some kind of punishment. This just makes me sick!!! Love Mollie and Angel Daisy

Rocco-Billy, thank you so much for helping to get the word out about this awful place. Hopefully, enough people with true stories will come forward and tell them to the new station so they can broadcast what is really going on over there.

I added this to my Facebook posts so hopefully word will spread about this disgusting facility misnamed a "shelter" - this place needs to be shut down. Everyone in our family hopes progress against this place will happen soon.

this place i will not even work with. last year i got an email that they had about 17 beagles from the same place turned in. i spent the day contacting every beagle rescue in the usa and had places for all of them. i called the pound and spoke to the manager. he said now there were only 16 cause the others killed one and ate it. i told them i was comming in the morning as it was closing time and i was 5 hrs away. he said fine. i arrived at 8.30 am. no one was there. no one answered phone. at 9;30 guy showed up. oh he had euthanized them all the night before cause he figured i wouldnt show up. never bothered to call to let me know before i drove there. I wanted to kill him in the worst way. later beagle rescues called the pound in outrage and he denied he ever spoke to me or that there were ever any beagles in the place. made me look like a liar. when i get pleas from posters to rescue there i delete. i feel sorry for the doomed dogs but i can not handle dealing with that man nor the town of stupid ignorant mayor and council who could caare less. mayby all the horrible publicity will make them change...not because they caare but because they are embarrassed. this is the south. animal right do not exist here. puppy brandon wishbone KHAN dude,coco nathan and soon suga babe
