about me

My name is Mickey.   I came to my forever home when I ran away from my previous home.  I liked it so well there that every time my original owners came to get me, I'd find a way to run away again. I received so much love and attention from my forever home that I never wanted to leave. There were five human kids that just loved me to pieces and I was allowed to sleep on the bed and couch.  Finally one Halloween night when it was storming, my original owners knocked on the door and said "she's yours" and that was it. 

Mickey was a very special lady.  She was absolutely afraid of everything though.  There aren't many pictures of her unfortunately because she'd see a camera and run. Same for storms  She hated them so much.  I'd have to make sure all the drapes were shut, leave the light on and then turn the radio or TV on loud enough to drown out the thunder.  Or there'd be times I'd just hold her.   I'm not sure what breeds she was, but she had the most beautiful red hair.  She loved having it brushed.  Later on when we got more furkids (and there were plenty!!!) Mickey always let it be known that she was "top dog".  Even with the kids sometimes.  If they got too rowdy she'd let them know to be quiet.  I got Holly when she was about 6 weeks old and as she got older she wanted to be at the top. Mickey seemed to let her know it was okay every now and then but they'd get into their little arguments.
Mickey passed away from heart failure on my son's birthday.  It seems like yesterday and there's not a day that goes by that I don't think about her.  She was a very important member of this house.  I never knew how old she was exactly.  We had her 10 years and I'm guessing she was at least 4 or 5 when we got her.  When we moved to our present house, I had the most vivid dream.   Mickey was already at the house and she walked up to me as if to say "hi, I'm here!"  I haven't had a dream like that since.  It just seemed so real.  I just miss her so much, but I know I will see her again.  She'll be waiting for me.  I'm sure she's doing what she loved to do best when she was younger - chase squirrels.   Every time I'd call her to come inside, she'd have to find a squirrel to chase.
