Canine actress, Gidget Gormley, passed away March 2, 2011 in the Phoenicia, New York home she shared with her person, Mary and sister Trew. Born November 24, 1994, Gidget showed an early aptitude for performance and had a long career in film, commercials and television. Although Gidget was most famous for her role as Samantha's frisky dog in the Sex and the City movies, she also appeared with Chloe Sevigny in "The Last Days of Disco" and was the hero dog in the short film "Go Jimmy, Go".
On television, Gidget played Patti LaBelle's dog on "The Cosby Show", guest starred in "Mad About You" and together with Robert Smigel and his "Triumph, the Insult Comic Dog", had a re-occuring role on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien". Gidget used her celebrity to raise money for non-profits dedicated to helping other animals in need. As a melanoma survivor, she was a fundraiser for the "Tails of Hope Foundation" dedicated to helping pets with cancer. Locally, she was the face of "Friends of Snuffy", an organization created in honor of her brother, Snuffy, to help area people feed and care for their pets.
A frequent presence at all community events and the dedicated companion to Mary and her family, she will be truly missed by all not just in the entertainment world, but in her hometown of Phoenicia as well. More about Gidget's career and work can be found on her blog: www.gidgetgormley.com
