PLEASE STOP PUPPY MILLS AND BREEDING!

Some reasons stop puppy mills:

1.  The conditions for the breeding animals are inhumane.  And they have either no veterinary care or very little.

2.  The breeding females are not given adequate recovery time between litters.  And when they are past breeding age, they are usually killed.

3.  Because of overcrowding and not being socialized with people and other dogs it leaves the puppies with emotional problems and aggression issues.  These puppies are then more likely to be abandoned or left in shelters.

There are so many lovable shelter animals that need a home.  Why breed more?

about me

We are three loved babies.  All three of us have been rescued from less than great situations but now are healthy and spoiled rotten. Peanut sleeps in bed with our Mom, Angel found a hide-a-way area between Mom's bed and the wall when she first came to live with us so Mom bought her a soft cuddle bed and placed it there.  She seems to love that spot.  And because Mom felt bad that I, Snow, couldn't sleep on her bed...(She says I would have to take more baths to do that and I chose not too.) she bought me a toddler bed of my very own.  I love it.  You can check out the picture of me on my bed.

Snow is a mixed breed.  Neighbors thought they needed to get a puppy because they could.  After never getting him anything, including a doghouse, bowl to eat from, a collar or even giving him a name, they decided he was too much trouble.  I had spent every day after work playing with him and had even made him a bed after the weather started getting so cold and wet.  We bonded and he thought he belonged to me.  One day I came home and he didn't meet me.  I called and went looking for him.  The neighbors weren't home so I couldn't ask about him.  I just knew they had taken him and dumped him somewhere.  For days I called vets and animal shelters looking for him.  Luckily not quite a week later, the neighbors came home from their trip and saw I was home.  They came over and asked if I wanted him.  They had taken him to a family members house where he could be placed in a pen with some other dogs.  I think she was shocked when almost screamed 'YES'.  They didn't go get him for a couple more days but when they drove up and opened the door of their truck, Snow jumped out and ran straigt to me.  I know everyone thought I was crazy but seeing Snow so dirty and thin, I grabbed him and was crying.  He was doing this crying, barking sound that let me know he was feeling the same way.  Since that moment, he has been my baby.

Peanut is a Chiwennie.  I was actually trying to find a companion for Snow since I work a full time job and didn't like leaving him home alone so much.  Looking through the paper I saw an ad for free puppies, 1/2 chihuahua and 1/2 dachshund.  I couldn't imagine what they would look like and since Snow needed a car ride and a ice cream treat, we decided to check them out.  When I got there I was horrified to see the conditions.  The puppies were in a cardboard box in a building out behind the house.  They were all so covered in fleas and sickly.  The man who took me back to the bulding they were in made the comment "We buried one this morning."  I had to save at least one.  I wanted to take the entire litter but knew that the medical treatments would be much more than I could afford.  Peanut was only a little over 1 lb when I took him to the vet and some of that was a belly full of parisites.  The vet wasn't sure he would make it but luckily after treatments and several nights of sleeping in a recliner with Peanut on my chest, he recovered.  He is now a very healthy, spoiled baby who is addicted to a rubber ball that he has to keep with him at all times.  (Also, I did find out about a year later that a lady I had worked with in the past had gotten another one of Peanut's litter mates and she also was doing great.)

Angel is my latest rescue.  She is a chihuahua mix.  I understand her original owner was an elderly man who became disabled and could no longer keep her.  My parents who also love animals knew about her and that she was now being kept in a filthy pen with two large hunting dogs.  I wasn't looking for another dog so it took my mother several attempts but they finally got me to go look at her.  She was so thin from the large dogs not letting her eat and wanted me to rescue her so badly.  I went back within the hour and got her.  At the vet we discovered she had recently had puppies and she also had heart worms.  Thankfully the Nacogdoches County Humane Society helped with the cost of the heart worm treatments and she is now recovered.  The next step is to have her spayed and that appointment is for this next week.  As her name, she is an absolute Angel.  One of the most loving dogs I have ever seen.  And when she isn't cuddling, she is full of enery and wanting to play.  Her and Peanut play all the time.  Snow actually looks at them as a big brother would his irritating younger siblings.  :-)

Mom took us to our a step aunt's house who has a storm cellar.  She has never used it so it was really dirty but at least we were safe and with our mom.  We had to stay in the cellar for almost a whole day.  Mom did take us out once when the storm died down a little to let us do our business.  We were so excited to be out that we about pulled Mom's arms off wanting to run and p...

Hi there you three, please give you mommy a big kiss from me to say thank you for rescuing you all - thank goodness the majority of humans are angels in disguise :) What you say about puppy farms is so true but another point is that sometimes family pets are 'dog-napped' in order to become breeding dogs for these places too :( On a lighter note, thanks for being my friend. Love'n'hugs Lucy

My mommy just finished reading your story. My sisters and I are all rescues and sometimes people tell my mommy that her heart is bigger than her brain for having 3 of us. I think her brain must be pretty big too because we are three spoiled and well loved companions. As it says on the sign in the window: this home is maintained for the care and safety of its animals, if you don't like it...go away.
