Hi! My name is Annie! And like the character Little Orphan Annie sang in the broadway musical, I've had a "hard-knock life." But things are looking up and I'm hoping for a forever home soon!
Here's my story: I was picked up as a stray by animal control in Prince George's County, MD, and taken to the shelter. Sadly, my people never came to get me. But some other people took me home, and I thought my life had turned around. But I was wrong.
They tied me to a fence, where I was taunted by squirrels. I finally got loose, but before I could catch a squirrle, a car "caught" me. The vet said I had "nerve damage" and my people took me back to the shelter instead of getting me medical care. Boy, was I disappointed; I sat all alone in a cage for two weeks!
But then I got a second (okay, maybe a third) chance. Some nice people from the SPCA/Humane Society of Prince George's County saw that I was a special--and not just a "special needs"--girl and took me into their foster program. I'm living in a great home with three other dogs while I wait for my own Daddy Warbucks to show up and give me a loving forever home.
Note from Annie's foster mom: Currently, Annie has limited mobility of her right front leg and no touch sensation below the elbow. Although a veterinary specialist doesn’t think Annie will ever get back full mobility or sensation in her paw, she does think that her condition will improve, although it will take time. Given the availability of canine orthopedic/orthotic devices, Annie may be able to keep her leg, but at this point we don’t know for sure whether that will be in her best interests. (If the leg does require amputation, the vet assures us that Annie will get around just fine…which we can believe, given how she runs up and down stairs and around the yard without using it now.)
We are committed to giving Annie the chance to keep her leg, so we giving her love and attention and observing her progress. If we find an appropriate adopter (preferably in the MD/DC/NoVA area) who wants to continue this process with the understanding that Annie may eventually require amputation, we would be happy to place Annie in a forever home. And if the adopter felt after a fewmonths or so that Annie’s leg was more hindrance than help to her, we would cover the costs of amputation surgery by one of our cooperating veterinarians.
Rest assured, on three legs or four, Annie would bring great joy, love, and companionship into your home!

Summer has almost gone and I have not had time to keep up with my doggyspace friends.Dad is still working six or seven days a week. Mom's ankle is completely healed, but the hot summer weather has kept her indoors a lot.I discovered a nifty little hidey-hole: under the bed on Dad's side. I squirm into that spot with just my back legs and tail showing. When Dad comes home from work we play a game.

Hi Annie, How are you? Mom is so busy this summer she can't take a vacation so she decided we would take a virtual vacation here on doggyspace. We want to go to as many places as we can. Mom said she thinks we can travel 200 thousand miles this summer. I think she's nuts but I'm up for her game. Mom would like to know where in Maryland you live so she can put down how many miles we traveled to see you. Bol...yes now I know she's nuts. I have brought a ball so we can play a little bit and if you don't mind please tell mom one thing she can do while we are there
