about me
Hi! I’m Xerxes. I was adopted from the Gloucester County Animal Shelter on July 23rd, 2009 by Meghan and Kai. I’m technically a boxador, but Meghan identified my as a boxer on Doggyspace because I have such cute boxer cheeks!
Meghan and Kai adopted me on the first day I was showcased in the adoption side of the shelter. (The volunteers kept me on the other side of the shelter for a week to see if anyone had lost me.) A nice lady had found me on the street and brought me to the shelter. Because I was a stray, no one knew my real age. The shelter said I was around a year old because I had all of my adult teeth, but Meghan thought I looked (and acted) way younger. She did some research and discovered that the range of time in which dogs get all of their adult teeth is 6 months to a year. Because of this, Meghan decided to name December 1st, 2008 as my birthday.
I was very skinny when I first came home, and Meghan has been trying (unsuccessfully) to put weight on me. What can I say? I’m very active! Although I’m a very sweet boy, I brought some issues home with me from the shelter. I suffer from severe separation anxiety that was most likely caused by abandonment. My tantrums, destructive behavior, and constant yelping have made it very difficult for Kai and Meghan. (Actually, it’s more difficult for Kai, but I don’t mean to make him mad!) When conventional methods failed, the vet put me on Prozac to help calm my fears, but that hasn’t helped. I’m scared Meghan and Kai will leave me forever when they go to work! I also have a hard time controlling my bladder, but Meghan thinks that’s because I’m young and very emotional. She bought me a special diaper to wear when I visit family, so I won’t embarrass myself.
When someone is home with me, I am very lovable and like to cuddle. I love giving kisses, too. I have a sister, Darby, who was adopted a couple of months before me. I think she’s the greatest.

Last night Meghan cooked a turkey for Kai and his friend. I stood guard and made sure nothing that fell on the floor stayed on the floor. Meghan calls me her little vacuum cleaner. When everyone was done eating, Meghan gave Darby and me two heaping plates of turkey! I was so excited that Kai had to slow down my eating so I wouldn't choke.
