Brody was adopted in October 2007 from the AZ Humane Society, when he was 3 months old. He was underweight and very ill when he was surrendered. He was fostered for about a month and half and we adopted him into his forever home. He is a VERY happy and healthy pup.
CHEWMAN OF THE BOARD
WOOF WOOF! My name is Brody, but my mom also calls me Brody Bear. I turned two on the 4th of July, and live in Phoenix with my Mom, Dad and Feline Sister Chloe. I think I might be an Australian Shepherd/Border Collie Mix, but I'm not sure...It's open for debate :)
I love the dog park, wrestling with my buddies, chomping on my rawhide bones, playing with squeeky tennis balls, and eating pooch pops (doggie popscicles)! My mommy makes me the best pooch pops! Some are with chicken stock and some are with yogurt and peanut butter, I just LOVE them! All mom has to say is "wanna pooch pop?", and I go nuts and will wait by the freezer.
I have really bad allergies...does anyone else out there have them too? Mine are so bad my mommy has to give me allergy shots once a week, yuck! But I always get treats afterwards and a big kiss...I have gotten really good about getting them. Now I just sit nicely for Mommy while she gives them to me.
Ladies, take notice...I am a heartbreaker! :)
My FAVORITE Pooch Pops: My mommy takes chicken stock (the best one shes found is at Trader Joes) and pours it in a rubber muffin tin (good size pops!), and freezes them. Then she can just pop one out for me when I'm a good boy! Sometimes she adds water to lessen the salt content, or she gets the low sodium chicken stock. Mommy also makes some pops with lowfat plain yogurt and mixes in some peanut butter...pours them in the rubber muffin tin, freezes them, and I get to enjoy! These ones I can devour in seconds!!!! :)
From my mommy...
If I Didn't Have a Dog
I could walk around the yard barefoot in safety. My house could be carpeted instead of tiled and laminated. All flat surfaces, clothing, furniture and cars would be free of hair. When the doorbell rings, it wouldn't sound like a kennel. When the doorbell rings, I could get to the door without wading through a fuzzy body who beat me there. I could sit on the couch and my bed the way I wanted, without taking into consideration how much space a furry body would need to get comfortable. I would have money and no guilt to go on a real vacation. I would not be on a first-name basis with six veterinarians, as I put their yet unborn grand kids through college. The most used words in my vocabulary would not be: out, sit, down, come, no, stay and leave him/her/it ALONE. My house would not be cordoned off into zones with baby gates or barriers. My house would not look like a day care center, toys everywhere. My pockets would not contain things like poop bags, treats and an extra leash. I would no longer have to spell the words B-A-L-L, F-R-I-S-B-E-E, W-A-L-K, T-R-E-A-T, B-I-K-E, G-O, R-I-D-E. I would not have as many leaves INSIDE my house as outside. I would not look strangely at people who think having an animal ties them down too much. I'd look forward to spring and the rainy season instead of dreading 'mud' season. I would not have to answer the question 'Why do you have a dog?' from people who will never have the joy in their lives of knowing they are loved unconditionally by something as close to an angel as they will ever get. How much simpler but EMPTY my life would be.
I rescued a human today.
Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her. I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today. Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them. As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone's life. She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well. Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms. I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side. I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes. I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.
I rescued a human today.
